I'd say if you're end goal is to hit the top 10 in September you are right.
Otherwise it is bad strategy if you are looking to make CFP. If you are using it to prepare and compete for a conference championship I also think it is a good strategy. At the end of the day they have to win conference games. Regarding G5 teams, I am not sold on it helping or hurting.
