It comes down to this: a Division I team should be able to kick a 35-yard FG
from dead-center and hit it pretty much every time. The penalty didn't cause Washington to miss that kick - their horrible blocking up front that allowed BYU a huge push to stuff the kick is what caused them to miss the kick.
A team from the lofty Pac-12 should be able to make that kick, over and over again, without any difficulty. And further, if they do miss the kick for whatever reason, they should have the guts to take responsibility and not whine and complain and blame the officials.
