I don't know if KS is a good coach or not or if he is improving significantly or not.  I admit to not being an avid fan of him personally at this point.  I just want him to be successful because I want BYU to be successful.

I do know that it feels like his "administration" has lost a lot of important games and had a lot of bad losses, despite having some good wins.

As a way of trying to get a better feel for how BYU has done under KS, beyond the emotions of coaching changes and week to week wins and losses, I grouped all of BYU's opponents in the last 4 seasons into 3 groups (4 really with group A having a sub-group).  I doubt everyone will agree exactly with how I divided the teams into groups, but I also doubt the disagreements will be very significant.

The bottom line, based on W/L's, indicates KS isn't that great, likely pretty bad.  So far this year, BYU appears to be on an upward trend, but ultimately the W/L results will make the case whether I like him personally or not.  

Here's the breakdown to date:

Group C :  Includes teams BYU should lose to maybe once in a generation and then only during a fluke game or randomn weird season.   Not a big deal to win these games, but a very big deal to lose these games.

BYU's record:  15-6.

Group B:  Includes teams BYU should probably not beat and are not a big deal if they lose, but are a big deal when they win. 

BYU's record:  2-3

Group A:  Includes teams that are important teams for BYU to beat.  These are games that are a big deal to win and a big deal to lose.  I included Boise and Utah in sub-group A1 and mid-level P5 teams in sub-group A2.  I would also include some G5 teams like SDSU in A2.  Some may say USU should be in this group, but I just can't take them seriously so they stay in group C.

BYU's A1 record: 0-7

BYU's A2 record: 5-4
