Few people understand what Vegas actually is. It isn't a gambling town, it isn't
a tourist center, although it does have a lot of both of those things. (Gambling and tourists) It is an international business center. The sheer amount of money that flows through this town is hard to understand. I know a FBI agent who transferred from DC to Las Vegas. He told me that the one thing that surprised him was the sheer quantity of cash, actual hard cash, that flowed through this city. At any given time during the year, Vegas will be hosting multiple world conventions that are literally too big for most other American cities to host. Then there are a few, like CES that I'm not sure any other city could host. Sure, the population isn't as high, but Las Vegas is a center of commerce without equal between the coasts.

Moreover, putting aside the convention business, the buildings on the strip aren't giant casinos, they are giant banks. They are regulated the same as banks and function similarly in many ways.

These are the reasons that sports teams have been successful. Huge amounts of money behind them. For instance, nearly all the seat licenses for the new stadium have been sold. That's 500-75,000 just for the right to buy season tickets. That isn't the average las vegan. That is business and corporations. That is why MLB could work, at least as well as it works anywhere else.
