Had a similar thing (sorta) happen to me while at BYU

I was a Sunday School teacher in my student ward and the new semester had just started so we had a number of new move-ins. After class, a new girl came up and complimented the lesson and made some small talk.

I didn’t think much of it until later that night when my dad called me laughing. He asked about a girl who had talked to me after Sunday School, etc... I confirmed the story and he said...”Well, that girl is your cousin.”

Turns out that she had gone home that day for family dinner and had told her parents about “a cute guy” that taught their Sunday School class that day (her words) and she wondered how to ask him out. Her parents asked her “the guy’s” name. When she told them my name, they started asking questions and then called my dad to confirm. Apparently much laughing ensued by them. Not so much by the girl. 😀

In fairness, that side of the family isn’t close at all so she had no way of knowing. Scary to think how awkward it could have been if she hadn’t had that conversation when she did...

Oh...and she never came back to the ward. I literally never saw her again. Don’t know if she moved or just went to a different ward.
