both are great but with littler kids you'll probably have better luck with a female knowing their limits than a male. We love our current dog but he is definitely better at being buddies with our now big kids than he'd have been with toddlers. Not that he'd be mean but he is a bit more rambunctious. There is also a rumor that if you get one from european lines they tend to be a bit calmer.
