on both sides of the ball.
On offense there has been a consistent problem with false starts and blatant holding at inopportune times. Also a LOT of missed or poor blocking though that seems to be improving the last few games. Seems to be a lack of focus or discipline, which I really thought Grimes would have been on top of already.
Defensively, well, it’s a complete mess. I really like the young LBs and it seems like there is decent but inexperienced talent in the secondary. Who knows about the DL because they’re essentially double-teamed constantly. I think the talent is there for a decent-to-good defense - if they were to play in a system that made any sense.
The D needs to work on tackling for sure. There are deficiencies but the main one is the ridiculous scheme that handicaps them before they take the field.
I don’t know if by “foundation” you meant organizational culture, but I do believe there is a level of discipline missing from Sitake’s leadership.
It seems to me that there are a lot of positives as well, and if the execution and defensive scheme problems can be fixed, I think he could still become a coach who wins 8-10 games a year consistently. If so he could have a long career at BYU.
Those things have got to get fixed though.
