First off, Liberty is much better than they were to start the season, when they lost to Syracuse 24-0. Most teams improve as the season goes on, and their QB has gained a lot of confidence, particularly after his performance last week against UMass.
Second, Liberty aspires to be us (both their founder and athletics director has said the same thing). They're working to be on our same plane, and they had a lot to prove so they played with extra fire.
Third, we're starting 3rd stringers (!!!!) at many of our positions who played two excellent games back to back against Boise and Utah State. It's a lot to expect them to play perfect every single week... and Liberty was starting a QB who was playing in his 40th start (!!) (We haven't had a QB play in 40 starts since Max Hall and he only had 39 I think).
There is so much parity in college football. We really need to appreciate wins more than we do. Only 4 more games and we're going through the dreaded offseason again. Just enjoy it.
