Musicians make relatively little off of streamed services or albums. It is mostly concert revenue now. Spotify pays out little for the music they stream. Some artists still had not received a dime when I looked into it earlier this year.
The heyday for making money as a musicians was the 60s, 70s and 80s. Johnny Mathis (still living) is worth about $400 M in large part due to his greatest hits album charting for almost 500 weeks. How many people today have even heard of Johnny Mathis?
