You can find weirdos anywhere. On average, the people there, both students and
faculty, are people that were formerly called Mormons. By pure coincidence, this is also true of those that attend BYU.
It’s amazing the caricatures of others that people will concoct in their minds based off of unreliable anecdotal evidence.
When presented with similar unreliable anecdotal evidence of things pertaining to their own group of people, they either laugh it off as untrue, or stuff it off as far from the norm.
In practice and in reality, the average student at BYUI isn’t any more restricted than the average student at BYU.
