Maybe, but at the same time
isn't it plausible that he knew immediately that he had done something horrible and rather than trying to place blame, which would just add fuel to the fire, he decided to stay quiet? I'm not saying this was or wasn't the case, but I do think there are reasons he might not have wanted to raise the allegation in the immediate aftermath.
