Why would I buy them something that research shows will put them significantly at risk for increased anxiety, depression, and other problems? We do let them buy their own smartphones when they are sophomores or juniors in high school. And even then we use screentime on Apple or Google Family to limit social media.

YMMV but whatever you do to slow it down and delay access will pay dividends later.
