Not Virginia, try St. Augustine, Fl in 1565
Just read “A Voyage Long and Strange” by Tony Horowitz that goes through the actual history of the settling of the US vice the historiography that we’ve been taught. His thoughts...the pilgrim story was a more “true American” story than the Spanish or Virginia story, and got more reporting. Especially after the Civil War and the part Virginia played in it.
