Two reasons, Plymouth flourished. Jamestown and other Virgins colonies did not. Similar to celebrating Columbus vs Vikings discovering America. Probably more important, though, is the concentration and outsize influence of history writers / academics / old school “influencers” on the narrative in the Northeast, including the Ivy League. Revolutionary War events in the Boston (massacre, Tea party, sons of Liberty, Paul Revere, etc) are emphasized more than what went on in Virginia or elsewhere too. Jeffersonian gentleman farmers and slave holders did not write as many textbooks as Adamses, Houghtons, etc and their ilk.
