Disney execs said publicly that The Last Jedi was a disappointment financially because there were too many movies that came out close together (The Force Awakens, Rogue One, Solo) and fans were fatigued. (Privately, they may have acknowledged that there were elements of TLJ that aggravated lifelong fans and the brand is tarnished.). Either way, they were going to rethink things.
The planned series (releases in 2022, 2024, and 2026) by the guys who screwed up Game of Thrones fell through.
The planned series by the guy who screwed up TLJ hasn’t announced filming dates or release dates.
They brought in the guy who was behind the Marvel universe to help out and help plan the next few movies. Kathleen Kennedy said publicly that Star Wars is harder than Marvel because they don’t have decades of stories to draw ideas from (conveniently forgetting she dumped the decades of Star Wars Expanded Universe materials in comic books/games/novels and the George Lucas scripts).
The only movie left is a Rogue One prequel schedule for 2021.
Remaining movies got turned into TV series. The Boba Fett movie series got adapted into the Mandalorian (already picked up for another season), and the Obi-Wan series with Ewan McGregor is coming out as a TV series.
