Another important difference--and also mentioned in the extended features--LoTR
never made the CGI the focus of a scene just for the sake of coolness. It was there wherever it needed to be. They didn't change the scene or direction to add additional focus on CGI. SW on the other hand did this constantly. It really amplifies the imperfections.
