had no TV contracts (at least at the Tier 2 or Tier 2 level) signed. They were promising we would get what we wanted on Tier 3 rights, but had no contract ready. This was while the debacle of "The Mtn" channel was still on everyone's minds (Hair Thompson promised us, as did the TV guys we would have our Tier 3 rights, but they got nixed in the final contract) and, my opinion here, the administration was trepid about jumping to the Big12 to only have the same problems re-emerge as they had in the MWC. Promises are good, but contractual obligations are great and the Big12 was not able to provide them at the time.
Hind-sight is 20/20 and we all can't believe that we missed the opportunity, but given the environment at that time, I can see why the admin hesitated. Would have loved to be a fly on the wall of all those meetings to see how it all went down....
