I found WWII pictures of my grandpa, but had a much worse outcome
After he passed I was cleaning out his house and found a box buried in the back of his storage room. It was a box full of letters that he had written to my grandma while he was stationed in Guam. He was at BYU and they got married a few months before he shipped out.

With the letters were a bunch if film negatives. You could see what the pictures were and they were just of everyday life while in Guam. There were pics of his unit, of them playing baseball and with some locals. They were pretty priceless.

We took them to Inkleys to be processed and printed. They had to ship them off somewhere that did their historical pictures. Well, after a month or so we hadn't heard back. My wife called and was informed that they didn't know where they were at. We contacted the place they sent them and their corporate office, but to no avail. As we were trying to find them Inkleys went out of business and they're completely gone. My wife still gets emotional thinking about it.

The bright side was that we took all the letters and typed them out so we could present them to my mom. For months we laughed and cried as we dictated and typed his almost daily communication. I was very close to my grandparents and it was an amazing experience to see what he was like as a young man.

We copied all the letters and gave a copy to everyone and presented the originals to my mom. We all still tell stories of Grandpa from war that would have gone unknown without those letters.
