Not variable but indexed and whole life
If structured properly these types of insurance make a great savings vehicle compared to other alternatives. It won’t go down in value even if the market tanks. The average returns beat most safe money type savings vehicles. You retain Penalty free access to you money unlike any qualified plan and you can use the cas to creat a supplemental tax free source of income in retirement. I’ve heard too many bad stories on variable products.

Plus you’ll have a death benefit Th hat will pass tax free and most companies allow you access for long-term care before you die.

Costs are deceptive because they are more front loaded than other vehicles but since they don’t have fees of the total value of the account they actually get cheap as the account grows over time unlike a 401k that charges a percentage of value that will increase over time as the account grows.

So it’s a reasonable vehicle for long term savings.
