I was in Washington, DC, trying to get into the political game. Wanted to be on a Congressional staff and was interviewing but found out they didn't offer health benefits for the level of job I was looking at. Then I found out my wife was expecting and we suddenly needed to get some health benefits quickly.
I started thinking about other options and while scanning the Washington Post want ads, saw a couple for legal assistant which offered benefits. I'd thought about the law before, but never very seriously. Anyway I called two firms from the want ads, got two interviews later in the week and both offered me a job that same day I interviewed. I started thinking maybe I had something to offer the law field. I took one offer at a big corporate law firm and worked there for two years before deciding to go to law school.
Ended up a JAG because my brother joined the Navy as an LDS Chaplain about the time I started law school. He hyped me up with ideas of being stationed together on a ship. I'd seen A Few Good Men and the tv show JAG, and it sounded funner than going back to a corporate firm. I never did get stationed in the same ship, or even same state, as my brother though.
