There is an interesting argument here
The AAC has been arguing about the "P6" the last couple of years. I've thought it was a bit clownish but they actually had a decent claim this year. By the numbers, the AAC was much better than the ACC — even with Clemson in the AAC. They arguably, particularly after the bowl games, were roughly as good as the Big 12. On top of that, you add in UCF's top 5 finishes the last few years.

If you add Boise and BYU to the AAC, there is a strong case to be made that it is one of the Power football conferences. With the P5 conferences "blackballing" us, this might be one of BYU's best chances to improve football.
