One big reason I believe DUIs are not taken as seriously is because a large
Percentage of the population has driven drunk at some point in their lives and not been caught.
I’ve had a lot of friends admit to me that they’ve driven drunk before. And have been in small groups of people where everyone but me had a story about almost getting caught driving drunk by a cop when they were younger. It is very common, especially among younger people.
In the back of a lot of people’s head is the thought. It could have been me.
