But in retirement you probably aren't making any W-2 salary and MFJ I believe you can withdraw upwards of $80k
without taking the tax hit (please correct me if I'm wrong here).

Also, you can reimburse yourself with HSA funds if you paid for medical out of pocket and documented/kept receipts. So if you wanted it before 65 (if you retire before then) you can potentially access some of it.
