But if they only did it during the regular season, especially when they won the division by so many games, I'd be less inclined to strip them.
Ultimately, it doesn't matter what they do or don't do, 2017 is always going to have an asterisk. The question is whether 2018 or other seasons are as well. I believe there are more teams than the Astros breaking the rules to steal signs. If it's as objectionable to many as they claim, I hope the investigation continues to see how widespread it really is and doesn't just stop with the Astros. I can see how MLB would be afraid of what they might discover though and may just want to put out warnings to any rule breakers going forward. If they do that though, they better come up with another system for pitches and catchers to communicate or else its never going to stop.
Maybe this will just become the sign stealing era similar to the steroid era. Except the entire history of baseball has included sign stealing.
