It's illegal in my state unless it is specified that they are a chiropractor
So they can say "Dr. Smith, DC" or Dr. Smith, chiropractor" but they can't just say "Dr. Smith". They can be sanctioned by the licensing commission if they violate this.
Actual medical doctors, dentists, podiatrists, doctors of psychology, pseudo-academic insecure wannabe "Dr" athletic directors, etc are under no such obligation.
