The poster in the related thread asked about special-ordering a car. I have done that in the past (one dealer actually lost my car... but that's another story) but the one thing I have ALWAYS wanted to do was a European Car Delivery.
Basically, you order your car but select to pick it up at the factory in Europe. A few manufacturers (BMW, Volvo, Mercedes) actually discount the price of the car to cover airfare and at least one night's hotel stay. When you pick up your car you normally get a tour of the company facilities, they give you probably one of the best tutorials on your new car, then you get to drive your new car around Europe for a few days. Again, most dealers that offer this also have travel agents that help schedule your trip. When your vacation is over, you drive to one of the many shipping centers all over Europe and drop your car off. About a month later your car shows up at the local dealership.
Since the car is technically 'used', it costs less to ship the car to the US... That is how they are able to discount the car and cover your airfare.
From the people I've talked to that have done it:
* Volvo seems to offer the best discount and service.
* BMW offers the best driving classes on your new car.
