When my oldest son was 5 or 6 he had a friend that lived up the street...
from us in our old neighborhood in American Fork. He would go and jump on their trampoline but he kept losing his shoes and I would ask about them and he would say that he couldn't find them when he got done jumping on the trampoline. I've always been a guy that buys quality shoes so even as a kid he wore Nike's and Doc Martins, and other nice shoes. One time he came home and didn't have his shoes again and said he couldn't find them. A few days later his buddy cam over and he was actually wearing his Doc Martins. I didn't say anything but then a couple of days later my son came home again without any shoes and when I asked him about it he said he saw his buddies mom take them while they were jumping on the trampoline.

So I walked up to their house with him to get them back. She answered the door and I said we came to get his shoes that he'd left there earlier. I didn't accuse her of anything I just asked if we could get his shoes. She said he didn't leave them there and I asked if we could go and look. She said again that he didn't leave them there and I told her that he said he did and that he saw her take them. She got mad and I said I wanted them back and I wanted all of his other shoes back. She denied having any others but right then both her daughter and her son that was my sons buddy came walking out and each of them were wearing a pair of my sons shoes, and neither was the pair he'd lost that day.

I pointed right at them and said both of those are my sons shoes and I want them and the ones you took today. She went and got the other pair and the kids gave us the ones they were wearing and we took them home. Basically she'd been stealing his shoes and giving them to her kids.

I found out a few years later that she got fired from the gas station she worked at in American Fork for embezzling. I wasn't surprised.
