Not sure if you are joking or not.
Like any foundation, endowment or pension the money is invested. This includes real estate, private equity, VC etc. It would be idiotic to spend it all as it comes in. This builds a long term base and the gains can help fund more opportunities. Harvard, Notre Dame, Texas, Getty, Ford Foundation, Kellogg, Gates, churches all invest money.

I won’t comment on the merits of the mall being a good investment or not. I do understand the need to build up the area surrounding temple square, while hoping for it to be a wise investment.

I don’t understand how people have no clue how churches, pensions, endowments, foundations work.
