into "widebody" (international) aircraft so they have a lot of income from international flying whereas Delta Air Lines is more domestic than international.  Every airline shapes themselves into what they want to become and, if they're lucky, they make money.  There's a joke in the aviation community that if you want to make a small fortune, start with a large one and start up an airline.  If you remember all the airlines from years ago (Pan Am, TWA, Eastern, Hughes, Northwest, Continental, Aloha, etc) you'll see that is true.
