button and the IV holder and the bedrails) costs about $52,000, and prevents roughly 58% of the infections that would normally happen with germ transmission in a hospital. Even one germ-transmission sickness costs about $28,000. So, once you stop two patients from getting infected, you've already more than made-up your costs.

The article also points out that once it's installed, it works forever-- unlike hand-sanitizer, wipes, stuff that must be replaced all the time-- so the long-term cost is also minimal.
