Part of it is testing is going slooooooooowww.....I work for a Medical Group
and all of our lab work goes through Quest Laboratories (one of the three largest groups in the country). The process now is that people come to our Urgent Care facilities and are screened by a nurse. If they meet the testing criteria, we swab them, and then a courier takes all of that day's samples to a Quest testing facility (closest ones to us are Vegas, Arizona, and Mission Viejo).

Now here's the scary part. We were initially told that the turnaround time for the tests would be 2-4 days. Right now, it is 10-12 days. In other words, by the time someone receives their test results, they will either have recovered from the virus or probably already be hospitalized. I'm sure that areas closer to the actual testing sites are getting faster processing times, but my guess is that in the best case scenarios, the test results are lagging 4-5 days, so take that into account as you are watching reported number of "confirmed cases".
