NYC is obviously densely populated. Some of NJ is too but haven't seen where the infections are there so don't know how much density has to do with it.
The question is whether the rest of the country will ultimately be the same as NYC or whether we all put measures in place soon enough (and/or are sparsely populated enough) to avoid a NYC-like situation. I don't know. I don't think anyone does yet.
