The people hosting a party for 40 or so are selfish and irresponsible. The "jealous you weren't invited" comment is insulting. My daughter is a midwife who works at a hospital here in California. Her husband is a nurse at another hospital. They have both seen this thing on the front lines. Both of them assume that they will, in fact, be infected sooner or later, and I fear greatly for their well-being. This virus is not a joke, nor something about we should be making jokes. You can use statistics to show whatever you wish, but the bottom line is that social distancing will help; failing to do so can only hurt oneself and others. Some people, like my daughter and son-in-law, need to be out in the public. Hosting a party for dozens doesn't exactly qualify as "necessary" or public-minded.
