Operation Sea Lion. Hitler absolutely wanted to control Britain.
Hitler's S.O.P. was to make the world think he wasn't interested in dominating an area, and then taking measures to absolutely dominate it. He did it to Czechoslovakia (famously said "We want no Czechs!"), he did it to Poland, he did it to Russia.
If it weren't for the channel Britain would have been invaded in 1939.
