Extreme measures was based on social pressure from very vocal doom and gloom fear mongers, and not realistic data driven plans based on the unique situation their state faced.
They were virtue signaling more than protecting anything.

They will loosen up as soon as they won't face the wrath of the fear mongering virtue signaling crowd on social media... So never.

Unless the realist crowd gets vocal enough to force a change.
