My 10 year old son is struggling because we had to cancel his birthday party. There’s a stream near us in our SoCal suburban neighborhood that has some small largemouth in a few pools. I’ve never fished for bass - I have mostly trout gear (fly rod and spin cast): flies, bubbles, swivels, treble hooks, power bait, a few spinners, worm hooks. These bass are pretty little - the ones we can see are only 8-10 inches. I imagine there are some carp in there too.

Any suggestions for what to try? Neither of us is expecting to catch anything - we just want to get out of the house - but I’d like to maximize our chances.
