We didn't go anywhere for spring break either. My dad was usually too busy. Plus my parents didn't have a lot of money for a while until they transitioned from sheep to cattle (and then, it was excavation that really got them out of financial troubles). This combined with the fact that my older brother was a terrible traveler meant we didn't really go anywhere until I was older. Even then, we rarely did anything for spring break.
