One of my favorite song writers is Desmond Childs. He's written songs for artists all over the map. Some of the songs I love, others I find it hard to listen to just because of the style of the music, or the singer. I mostly listen to Rock, ranging from pop rock on one side over to something short of heavy metal on the other. Really, the only mainstream music genres that I haven't been able to find much appreciation for are rap, country and the heavier heavy metal. When it comes to Country, if it isn't Lee Greenwood singing God Bless the USA, I probably can't listen to it for long.
I'm sure Prine is a gifted song writer, but if the message is wrapped in a style that makes me cringe, it's not going to move me. It's similar to preachers. I can feel uplifted by a sermon given from clergy from lots of denominations - but I wouldn't feel uplifted at all by a Southern Baptist fire and brimstone preacher regardless of the content of his message.
