His game does need some work, no doubt. But his potential is very high, imo.
I think he probably wants to play the 1, not the 2 as he did in DC. If Pope sees a PG in him (& I think he just might), then I trust he's gonna be blunt from the start with the kid. His vids show a lot of difficult off-balance jumpers which he has to get away from. Every great player takes chances, but this kid is clearly taking too many at this point.

BYU's scoring efficiency last season is a great place to start as a selling-point to a kid like McClung. But Pope can also easily point to TJ, Toolson & Yoeli to show tht such efficiency won't be at the expense of his freedom as a creator.

I think the kid's handles & passing are good enough to take a chance at him as a PG. Obviously he can get to the hole in a variety of ways, & I like that he's equally comfortable attacking from the top or on the baseline.

He's not simply a dunker, imo. Not remotely.
