personally. They know each other; McClung broke Alan Iverson's high school scoring record and AI reached out to him and has helped Mac along the way.
Pope knows what he is getting and can handle it. He successfully utilized, developed, and disciplined more complicated guys at UVU with whom other coaches couldn't cope. Under Pope, players who get out of line will be run off the court in a hurry.
Expect that any teammate issues Mac has dealt with, he knows about himself and wants to fix. Pope helps on that kind of stuff as well as any coach. Look at how well BYU played as a team last season, with guys joining together who previously didn't always play well with others.
Under Pope, players find out soon enough they can quickly soar to become their most effective selves as long as it includes making the team and teammates better.
"A player who makes his teammates great is more valuable than a great player." John Wooden.
