Platform sharing is why companies like Land Rover or Jaguar can survive despite crappy reliability scores.
Land Cruisers are nice. Awesome and capable vehicles. But when you have something as simple as a steering wheel that can be found in the Sienna and in the upscale Land Cruiser you start to lose some of the folks who appreciate and search a more bespoke design. The repair downtime, which is almost always warranty work, is fine for those first time owners to feel like they have something a bit more special for their daily drives.

A Cruiser may best a Rover in countless measures and quality ratings. But shared parts and platform is, at times, a turn off for some parts of the market.
