NL teams don't have an All-Star caliber hitter just hanging out on the bench. So some random backup becomes their DH. That seems like a huge disadvantage over the course of the season. While AL teams insert a guy in the middle of their lineup for half their games, NL teams throw in somebody who is hitting in the 7, 8 or 9 spot.
