BYU has 85 guys on scholarship. Meanwhile, there are 22 starting positions offense and defense. So that leaves you 63 guys who aren't going to be starters - and many of them aren't going to get much playing time even.

So - all you've said is he never got a chance. Are you saying that they didn't let him compete in practice? Never let him get any reps at all to show what he could do? Never had any opportunity to do anything but sit on the sidelines?

Having a kid hit the portal can mean many things. It can mean that he doesn't like the coaches, it can mean there's issues at home and he wants to be at a school closer to home, it could mean he thinks he's better than the school he's at and can go play for a team competing for a national championship, or... it can mean that he's had an honest conversation with the coaches, had a chance to compete but isn't going to crack the 2-3 deep, and the coaches have been real with him and suggested if he wants to play he might have a much better shot elsewhere.

So - for your assertion that he just never had a chance to compete - I'd love some evidence to back that up. Not just spouting about broken promises.
