chilango Intervention Needed

That’s weird, since Li (or Lee) is one of the most common surnames in China,

and there are cities and provinces with names like Liaoning, Luoyang, Lanzhou, Longmen, Lijang, and many more. Not to mention the famous panda Ling Ling, the first given to a US zoo, I believe.

I lived in China for 3 years and never met anyone who couldn’t pronounce the L sound.

It's really a Japanese thing, not an Asian thing. Chinese uses the "L" sound
