In hockey if you have the puck and the other team commits a penalty on you, you don't immediately stop play and do something different. Instead there is a delayed penalty call where the ref will raise his hand and keep it up until the team the committed the penalty touches the puck.

I'm not sure exactly how to balance play, but it seems really unfair to be potentially put at a disadvantage just because the other team violated a rule and made contact with you.
