This is not true
There are many articles and videos out there that explain why Weed fabric is not good (except for a few things, such rock pathways, etc...)

It works great for the first year, but after that it is less effective each year. After a few years it’s like it’s not even there. Weed seeds land on top of it and then grow through the fabric making is more difficult to get the roots out.

And over the long term it is not good for the health of the soil.

I don’t use weed fabric. I put down 3 to 4 inches of compost/mulch and does a good job at controlling weeds
