We're talking about huge bird nests of line in your reel that can take you out of the game for a while and which could even end your outing if you're not prepared with extra line, etc.
I'd stick with a spinning reel if that's what you know and what you're comfortable with. I don't think there is enough time before your trip to get up to speed in my opinion. Also make sure you have a quality braided line with a minimum 20 lb test on it. Your 6-8 lb monofilamentline you use on trout may not cut it.
