It happened in Tennessee, near Gatlinburg. We drove to the BYU-Alabama game and
decided to go river-rafting in the Smokies on the way back. On very windy 2-lane roads through the mountains, late at night, going toward our hotel, there was a pickup truck that was driving very slowly, like 10-15 MPH, and drifting over to the other lane. Because of all the curves, and his drifting out of his lane, it was very difficult to pass him, so there was a long line of cars behind him. Slowly they would pass, one by one, but it took about 30-40 minutes for us to make it to the front of the line, driving very slowly.

When we finally got a chance to pass him, I flipped him a well-deserved bird as we passed (I was the passenger). He immediately sped up and starting chasing us, and after a minute or two we heard a gunshot, then another. We were ducking down in our seats and going as fast as possible, and I got on a cellphone and called the police in Gatlinburg to report it. He chased us for a good 10 minutes and we heard maybe 2 more gunshots. Finally we heard the police sirens coming down the road, and the guy backed off. We raced to the hotel, checked in, and then stayed huddled up in the room all night, watching the car in the parking lot, to see if the pickup somehow showed up looking for us. We never saw it again.
