We need to get in P5 conf. to preserve a perception of normalcy for the Church

BYU is one of the most recognized institutions of the Church. Society is doing everything it can to marginalize the Church and all other traditional faiths. Remaining relevant in an activity that most people regard as mainstream and normal (college sports, especially football) would the most effective way to counteract the attempts to paint us as a weird, fringe cult.

Spend the $ I say.
