That's complete hyperbole
Kalani does view bowl games as a reward for a season of hard work and yes the team was given free time in Hawaii. However, the team is a lot harder working than in 2017 and Kalani kicks out all the bad apples.

Lead up to Hawaii bowl and all the partying, drinking, smoking etc. says otherwise. Sitake is set and just doesn't care

All the bad apples are still there, partying it up. Though I imagine it's tougher to pass and social distance
